The price was good on Amazon--I did see it advertised locally for a little less (on sale) but I needed it in a hurry. I recently purchased the Garmin 255W. Very Happy I originally was going to purchase a TomTom based on a consumer reports recommendation but when I searched for reviews on the internet I learned that TomTom uses a different database for their maps and there were problems with it. Although other GPS's were cheaper, I thought the "street name spoken" feature would be worth it and I was right. I am definitely not a "techie" but I had this thing up and programmed for a beach trip the same day.
Just decide on the top "must have" 3-5 features you want, and then decide if you REALLY want to spend extra $s to get the other features you MIGHT use.This is a great model, and I definitely recommend it. Very helpful to be able to select side-by-side comparisons with the way they highlight the specific differences with shaded lines. I will not unnecessarily repeat all the positive things said about the 255w. I do highly recommend going to the Garmin site to compare features.
It even tells you the speed limit of the road you're on and how fast you're going. We ordered the Garmin on 6/1, received it on 6/9 we left for vacation on 6/11 - during which time we received the bill.
I went to pay the bill and there was a $30 late fee which even after explaining our circumstances - they REFUSED to remove. We arrived home from vacation on 6/22 the following day I opened the bill and it was due 6/22.
We recently went on vacation to Kiawah Island South Carolina. The opening offers are tempting, but they'll get you with fees.
There is a 20 day billing cycle and they are waiting for you to be late. The Garmin gave perfect directions and we pulled into our destination at exactly the time the Garmin said we would.
UNFORTUNATELY, we used our Amazon.com Chase Visa to buy the Garmin - I WOULD HIGHLY DISCOURAGE DOING THAT.
So its as easy as go. This package came with a mount and a charger. Also the maps seem to be the latest versions - so that worked out well too. Works fine - does what I ask it to do. :).
It's really helpful when the lady actually speaks the name of the streets, that way you don't have to take your eyes off the road. It is great. I would recommend the 255W to everyone. I researched the Garmin GPS systems over and over. I picked the right one.
